May has always been my favourite month. My birthday sits in the middle of
it and it always feels like a month of optimism and positivity. And boy
what a May I’ve just had, phew! It started when Ibiza Style Magazine
released the May edition with my front cover design and a really lovely
article about my work. They were such a pleasure to work with and came up
with some great ideas, including making some art prints of the cover and
some t-shirts, which are now available at Echoamano, El Chiringuito and
Coco Beach. We also auctioned the original magazine cover art at Laurelito
Cafe in Jesus. An international bidder won it by phone and we raised €700
for the AECC, a Balearic charity that does so much for cancer sufferers on
the Islands.
As I mentioned in the previous blog, I was included in the wonderful Save
Wild Tigers charity exhibition Thrive, held at the Sanderson in London. I
was lucky enough to be able to attend the opening night and did so
accompanied by my mum and dad, we got spruced up and went along. I was
astounded by the level of art from other exhibitors, including Lauren
Baker and Mikey Brain (both of whom have work in the Urban Spaces Hotel in
Ibiza town). The project raised in total £60,000 and I was honoured to
have contributed.
As some of you might know, I’ve been known to spin the odd soul and funk
tune on the decks. This year the promoter and my good pal Bob Masters
asked me to join his line up of DJs for the Ibiza Soul Week held at Punta
Arabi. Words can’t describe the love and positive energy generated by this
fantastic event. 700 people attended, danced, laughed and smiled all week.
Every DJ brought something unique to the proceedings and it was amazing to
be amongst such talent like Dr Bob Jones, Jeff Young, Eddie Piller, Terry
Jones and many more. In honour of the event, I produced this poster as
limited art prints:
As well as the Soul week, another DJing dream came true when I was asked
to stand in for Willy Graff in the Funky Room at Pacha. So alongside the
legendary DJ Pippi and hosted by Vaughan Afrika, I played two consecutive
Fridays, incredible! Staying with music, a pal and I are due to release
tracks on the new Chapter Records label. We managed to record vocals from
the amazingly talented Coco Malone. What a pleasure it was to work with
Coco and be able to show her around the Island. I’ll be producing some
limited artwork for the cover of the vinyl run. Can’t wait until
everything’s ready and pressed – watch this space! My pal and fellow
Essential Ibiza blogger The Hogman, asked me to “pimp his ride”, the new
Love Truck that will be servicing events throughout the summer. He wanted
a flowery, hippy vibe so I got stuck into it with gusto, in the hope of
getting some of his legendary cuisine down my neck! Pictures of the
finished truck will be seen soon, but here’s a preview…
May was just so packed full of wonderful and creative moments, but I’m
happily looking forward to June, to my personal exhibition and loads
more…
Peace, love and funk’n’soul x
